Why do we care so little?

As a rule, people don't care about their health until something really bad happens to them. They keep smoking until they realize they have lung cancer; they keep drinking until they lose their minds; they keep neglecting everything that may lead to disaster until the disaster happens. And this is probably one the worst psychological problems if we are talking about global health issues. This is a peculiarity of a modern human - to care only about the career and forget about the thing that makes this career possible. What we have now is less movement (we average walking distance is a lot less than it used to be before the scientific and technological progress started) constant emotional stresses (connected with work, studying or other factors), bad nutrition (fast food, random meals). Sometimes people are simply unable to resist the influence of the progress on their health.
We are accustomed to blame doctors for all our problems, aren't we? We keep talking about better medical systems, better health insurance, better technologies, better education for doctors, but we keep forgetting that we cannot keep removing the consequences of the problem all the time. The disease is the consequence, and what we have to do is to prevent the reason of it. And the reasons may vary. All the factors like the bad ecology, stresses, pernicious habits, improper feeding, and sedentary way of life influence our health jointly and individually. So we have to realize these factors and start doing something about them.
